we made a night time drive from Farmington back to LA. saturday night.
the thought is that the kids would sleep and the drive would go by faster.
it may have been the case had marley and lincoln not taken turns throwing up the first 8 hours of the drive.
it was a long, hard, and STINKY drive.
every time we stopped for gas i would buy a new car freshener and hold it to my nose till it started to smell like throw up too.
sunday was spent doing laundry and napping, and more laundry and more napping and getting the van detailed.
it is the prettiest and cleanest it has ever been.
and there are no traces of throw up to be found.
nate and i were talking about how much we got done yesterday after having driven all night with the sick kids, and even though we were exhausted, just the fact that the long hard night was over gave us something to smile about.
it always amazes me the feeling of joy that comes after you have gone through a really taxing situation.
a reminder that "this too shall pass."
and one of the reasons we had to bust a move yesterday was that this little monkey started kindergarten bright and early this morning.
i feel blessed that he has a good school to go to considering where we are moving.
the plan was to homeschool.
i was scared.
but it was our only option.
then on a whim we watched the documentary
waiting for superman
on netflix the other night.
a friend had told me to take a look.
in it they mentioned a school called
kipp academy and told of its philosophy and and showed the success that these kids were having in big cities with horrible public schools.
we looked it up and saw there were some in LA.
i asked if Nate would stop by and see if there was a waiting list for 2013-14. Maybe we would have a shot next year.
while i was in new mexico with the kids he stopped by.
and then i got a text that said he got in,
and starts monday.
we were blown away.
he got the last seat available.
we feel blessed.
if you know me at all i'm sure the thought of me homeschooling him with 2 kids and a newborn at home was either funny or scary to you.
probably both.
i can't wait to find out how my baby's first day of school went.

Yay - you must feel so relieved! I bet he is so excited to be going to school. You would be great at home school...but I know EXACTLY how you must have been feeling about doing it. I think I might give my kids the option to home school if they want once they get in high school, just depending on the school and the kid, but I definitely know at this point in my life, they will get a better education going somewhere else for elementary school. :)
