Fixie

A while back, Nate got this idea that he wanted to build a bike. A fixed gear bike, or "fixie." He told me he thought he could build it for under $500. He also reminded me that I had previously purchased a treadmill for myself that cost more. Anyway, I told him it would be his next birthday, Christmas, and Father's Day gift. He began ordering parts, and reading up on fixie blogs. Things had to sit in the garage for weeks at a time until there was money to buy his next part. Well, For this last Father's Day, I told him he could order his last 2 parts, and have the whole day, Saturday, to finish building his bike, and take it out for it's first ride. Well, 9 months and $650 dollars later, Nate has his bike and is so excited!

Yesterday after work, he came home, got on his bike, rode to Union Station in Long Beach and took the train down to San Juan Capistrano, rode his bike to his parents house, and then He and the boy's went to a midnight showing of Transformers. I think it was close to a perfect day for him. Transformers and his fixie. One he will never forget.

Oh nate and his midnight showings of movies! lets see i went to Matrix 2 and 3 with him and the buddies up at school and i think X-men too..memories are fuzzy, but i remember none of my girl-friends want to go so i went with the guys. Con grats on the bike! i miss seeing your family, but most of all i miss hanging out with you in the afternoons sharing our frustrations and talking about anything and everything. i loved being able to walk right across the court yard and haveing a buddy!
