more baby steps

I finished reading Anti Cancer.
After talking to my sister while in Oregon,
I got the feeling that my mom and her thought I went a little overboard.
Hopefully I clarified some things.
I did not go overboard incase you were thinking the same.
I am taking baby steps to take better care of my body, and those mouths that I feed.

I ate treats and sweets while in Oregon overnight and did not beat myself up.
Jeremy's french toast and Almond Cake needed to be eaten, and I'm glad I was there to do it.
I skipped out on the sausage.
I ate lots of chocolate.
I didn't drink any diet pepsi.
Alright, one.
They have a SONIC in Medford.
I wasn't going to let that pass me by.

This morning I made a winter squash and grain soup.
It's nice to have on hand for a few days.
I didn't use a recipe, just added what I had on hand and what sounded yummy.

-Organic chicken stalk from Trader Joe's.
-3 squash, 1 big eggplant, celery, garlic.
-I added a heaping spoonful of Tahini(ground sesame, lots of B vitamins)
-1 cup uncooked Trader Joe's brown rice medley(brown rice, black barley, daikon radish seeds).
-Curry powder(contains Turmeric which is a super spice)
-Salt to taste
-I let it cook for 40 min. or so on med/low heat

Did I mention how much fun it is to make soup in my beautiful Orange stock pot? It was my Christmas gift from Anne.

It is warm, light, satisfying and yummy.
I have already had 2 bowls today.

I'm going to put some whole wheat bread in the machine and we will have soup and toast tonight for dinner.
Let's see if I can get the kids to eat it.
I'm sure I will have to heap cheese on it for them to even think about it.

In case you were wondering, my jeans are fitting better.
I'm not pre-baby weight yet, but I am over that hump and within sight of my goal.

P.S I wrote this Yesterday.  Becks loved the soup, Marley was a little more work.  But she always is.

Baloney! We both agreed that it sounded like info we learned in elementary school and it was great if it got people to eat healthy.
