Nate is a rock star

This weekend we left Beckham with Anne and Darrell and Nate and I drive up to San Francisco for the weekend. Nate ran his first marathon saturday morning. Not only was it his first marathon, but it was a trail marathon, and from where I was at the bottom, it might as well have been a freaking mountain marathon. I was totally bummed out that I couldn't train and run this one with him but we didn't think it a good idea to have a baby 8 weeks early 7 hours from home on a trail. SO, back to Nate. This guy is a champ. We had NO idea the terrain would be so burley, but Nate finished like a champion. I feel like bragging because this was so NOT a normal marathon, but 26 miles up and down a mountain. There were some great views of the Golden Gate Bridge though. I jogged the course backwards for part so I could meet Nate at one of his downhills and get some pictures and give him a snack. I was so totally impressed at his great attitude and toughness. Here are a ton of pics. The ones that just look like mountains, he is a little speck on them and I couldn't zoom in far enough to see very well. The course had them running across the beach to the finish and it was like running through cement. The kicker is that he had to do the whole thing TWICE. Once around was for the half marathon, and the marathoners had to keep going around. Twice the mountains, twice the sand. It's hard to see where he is in the pics, he has the black bandana on, the white t-shirt and navy shorts with a white stripe on them. The pictures don't do it justice, but they are for the family. The guy in the black who is just ahead of Nate in the last few pics in the beach got his butt kicked by Nate on that last stretch. The other pics are from our scenic drive home on Sunday down the 101. We had a fabulous weekend and aside from Nate being a little stiff, he is recovering nicely.

I've heard about this marathon - how it has some of the best views for a trail marathon! But I think I want a much more flat marathon when I attempt that feat. Congrats to Nate!
